Sequoia Does Hollywood!

Sequoia Houston

Many of you may already know, but in September 2011 I made a big leap towards fulfilling my destiny. I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my career in entertainment…and have not regretted a single moment. From juggling auditions to booking projects (both in front of and behind the camera) and even getting new representation, this has definitely been a journey to remember.

In my first 30 days as a resident of the city of angels I was blessed with an opportunity to work on a film, Noobz, which is set to be in theaters later this year. This was my introduction to “the biz” here, and while I was working as a Script Supervisor, rather than an actor, it gave me the opportunity to create some fantastic opportunities for myself. One such opportunity led me to my next Script Supervising job on a film that’s said to be the next big thing in horror, Awakened. On this project I got to build relationships with casting directors/producers of the film Leah Daniels-Butler (sister to famous film director Lee Daniels) and her casting assistant Kacee Devoe. They are currently casting the BET show “Love That Girl” starring Tatianna Ali from Fresh Prince as well as feature film The Butler, starring Oprah and a star-studded cast. These types of relationships help you get where you want to be, plus they’re just cool ladies to know, so I’m very excited about building these relationships.

2012 has been a very busy for me. So far this year I’ve worked (acting) on two short films and starred in a feature film called Fat Planet. It’s a satirical project that focuses on a planet that uses their resources wastefully and invents medicines to solve all of their problems…..sound familiar? This project should be out later this year. I’ll let you know as soon as I have any additional information. I was also blessed to work on a very important project called “I Take A Vow.” It was a public service announcement that brings awareness to domestic violence against women in Africa. It was a very eye-opening experience.

Thanks to my fantastic mother and step-father, Michael, I am now a card-toting member of SAG-AFTRA, the actor’s union. HUGE thanks to you both! I can’t wait to see what amazing opportunities this will bring. For more on my journey, please stay tuned to my blog www.sequoiahouston.wordpress.com.
